Government issues statement on strengthening the prevention and control of Monkeypox

On August 1, 2022, the Prime Minister issued Official Letter No. 680/CD-TTg on strengthening the prevention and control of Monkey Smallpox.

In the context that our country is facing a number of dangerous infectious diseases such as COVID-19, Dengue fever…; to actively control, prevent and control the monkeypox epidemic with the spirit and solution of “One step early, one level higher”, to prevent epidemics from occurring, to protect people’s lives and health, The Prime Minister requested:

– People’s Committees of provinces and centrally run cities:

+ Thoroughly and clearly and decisively directing, mobilizing all levels, branches and mass organizations to participate in the prevention and control of monkeypox epidemic and take responsibility before the Prime Minister for the prevention and control of the epidemic in the country.

+ Closely monitor the epidemic at border gates (for localities with border gates) in the community, early detect and promptly treat infected people, minimize deaths, thoroughly handle outbreaks ; ready drugs, equipment, human resources and funds to implement measures to prevent and control the epidemic, receive and treat disease cases.

+ Actively develop plans and response scenarios, organize drills according to situations to be ready to respond in the event of an epidemic.

+ Organize training for health workers at all levels according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health.

+ Communicating in many ways to the people and community about the epidemic situation and measures to prevent monkeypox disease according to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health, noting that people are advised to proactively report to the  medical authorities when having symptoms of suspicion or illness; setting up a hotline, where to receive information to advise and support people on monkeypox disease.

– Ministry of Health:

+ Closely monitor and update information about the epidemic situation and WHO recommendations to proactively take effective and timely measures to prevent and control the epidemic.

+ Implement drastic measures to monitor and prevent epidemics from entering; promptly handle outbreaks, take care of and treat sick people, minimize mortality. Particular attention should be paid to prioritizing the protection of medical forces, high-risk subjects, and vulnerable subjects.

+ Develop a plan for the medical response to monkeypox in Vietnam; continue to improve professional and technical guidelines, strengthen testing capacity, definite diagnosis, and train medical staff.

+ Direct, guide and inspect localities on surveillance, detection and treatment of outbreaks, measures to prevent and treat monkeypox; means, supplies, equipment and drugs are suitable for epidemic prevention and control.

In addition, the Prime Minister assigned specific tasks to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam Television, Voice of Vietnam, and Vietnam News Agency. Nam, People’s Newspaper; at the same time, request the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam Veterans Association, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and other organizations Member organizations coordinate with authorities at all levels to proactively and actively mobilize people to participate in epidemic prevention and control activities as recommended and guided by the Ministry of Health.
